The Harney Basin Wetlands Initiative is an umbrella for collaborative efforts to control carp and improve and sustain wetland habitat values in the Harney Basin.

Initial goals of this effort are to (1) implement a basin-wide carp control strategy and adaptive management to improve the health of wet meadows and other wetlands under Malheur National Wildlife Refuge’s comprehensive conservation plan; (2) maintain traditional flood irrigation practices on private lands that sustain important seasonal wetland habitats; and (3) improve riverine and riparian habitats.
