The construction process is extremely simple. Beginning at the center, timbers are inserted one by one in a radial sequence, each timber adding to the overall height of the installation. A new timber is inserted by lifting the end of a timber that's already part of the installation. As the structure grows, the lifting of the fixed timber will become more difficult - at this point I will employ a tripod with a block-and-tackle to gain the mechanical advantage required. I'll have three or four folks helping with the installation. The structure will be stable with gravity and friction holding everything in place - however, this being the playa, all the connections will be lashed to prevent the accidental slippage of a connection point.

The bells will be designed and built by Rikk Carey in Half Moon Bay. We will coordinate the support structure through the exchange of technical drawings and bring the two pieces together for the first time on the playa.
