Jabez Harger, a Huguenot, was in Stratford, Conn before 1662. He married Margaret Tomlinson, daughter of Henry and Alice Tomlinson of Stratford November 5,1662. He was given a home lot in Stratford, Connecticut which was recorded June 3,1669. He purchased land in Derby, Connecticut. where he settled a few years later, being one of the first settlers at the "North End." His first residence was located east of Edward Rigg's on Sentinel Hill. Jabez Harger died in 1678; his wife Margaret died 1698.
This website is for the enjoyment of the Harger family and any family related to JABEZ HARGER, who boarded a Huguenot ship to America in 1654. I have walked many Connecticut and Massachusetts cemeteries to photograph Harger gravestone, as Harger descendants remained pretty much there for over 200 hundred years. Also, plowing through newspaper roll film of the Hartford Courant added much information about these older generations.
This Website attempts to tell an interesting story, rather than just listing the ten generations leading to the present day. I have created these pages so that the gathered data does not get lost as this generation passes. Information from the internet, such as Find-a-Grave, has been added, and may be clicked on to give proper credit for the information.
Information for Bestor, Loveland and Fowler has been included, as these were the families of our Grandmother on our Mother's side. Also, permission was granted by the Bestor Family to include a forty page account of Eugene's family, when they moved to Montana, experiencing the Biizard of 1888 before their return within five years.
