History, Legends, Ghosts & More - October 2016

posted Jul 27, 2016, 12:04 PM by Woody Savage   [ updated Nov 2, 2016, 9:09 PM ]

APTA’s “History, Legends, Ghosts, and More Tour” In Bolivar, Tennessee this year, the Hardeman County Chapter of APTA in a joint venture with Epic Haunted Tours will conduct historic fall home tours every full weekend in October beginning with (7th & 8th), (14th & 15th), (21st & 22nd) and (28th & 29th). Each Friday and Saturday evening the first guided tours will begin at 6:00pm and go through 8:15pm and the second tours starting from 8:15pm through 10:30pm. Our theme “History, Legends , Ghosts and More” is all that and then some.

Every Friday evening a live paranormal investigation with the Epic Haunted Tours team will be conducted at the “old Hardeman County Jail.” What a great place to investigate; the old jail is reported to be built partly over a cemetery? A lot of strange things have happened here. Every haunted tour should have a cemetery, but not just any cemetery; but Bolivar’s most famous Polk Cemetery. Here you will learn about some of our county’s past leaders and hear docents in character as they tell of their former lives in West Tennessee. The guided “limousine golf cart” tour of the Historic Bills McNeal District tells of the history and lore of the neighborhood, while passing the Tuscan-style villa of the McNeal Place and Uncle Dave Parran’s home and his rocking chair. Finally passing The Pillars, (1826-28) where folks like Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, and President Polk once visited.

On Saturday night tours, join the Epic Haunted Tours paranormal team as they investigate in and around The Pillars. See if “Little Billy” is up for a chat or a prank.  These are not a “fun house” tours, but a real investigation as seen on TV.

Friday and Saturday night tours are different! As different as the days of the week. So pick a night, early or late or pick the weekend (early or late). Tickets for the event are only $25 per person for either day (early or late) or $35 for the Weekend Pass Special (early or late). You can buy your tickets with your Visa, Mastercard, or American Express credit or debit cards securely using PayPal online by clicking on the BLUE button below or locally in Bolivar, TN at On The Square Gallery & Gifts , or call Ken Savage (731-518-7148 or 731-6587912).  Note:  Tickets must be bought in advance for this event.

Don't miss this exciting opportunity to take our History, Legends, Ghost & More tour here in Bolivar, Tennessee.  Tour participants should meet at The Pillars, 322 South Washington Street at their designated tour date and time. This event is open every Friday and Saturday night in October with two tours each night!   Admission is $25 per person per tour or $35 for a full weekend pass.

Old Fashion 4th of July Celebration - Sat.July 2nd @ 11AM

posted Jun 17, 2016, 12:17 PM by Woody Savage

Saturday, July 2nd, starting at 11:00am at The Pillars, we will be having our Old Fashion 4th of July Celebration at The Pillars.  We are asking all our friends and members to come by and for a small $7.00 donation, they will have their choice of hamburgers or hot dogs lunch with drink.  We will also be enjoying some vintage games from the past, that should be fun for all ages.  In Mr. Bills era, things were a lot simpler, but just as meaningful if not more meaningful than today.  We like to bring back some of that proud patriotic feelings again in our 4th of July celebration.  Please join us and help bring it back like it was.

June 27, 2016 - Potluck/Board Meeting - 5:30 to 7PM

posted Jun 17, 2016, 12:14 PM by Woody Savage

Our local APTA board members have been listening to some of our new and long time members, and last month we decided to act on some of their new ideas.  Ideas like late evening meetings when more members might could attend.  So we thought food, is always a good way of bring folks together, too.  We held a potluck supper / board meeting in May.  It seemed to go over well, we got our business done and a good meal too.  So we will do it again this June  27, 2016, that is a Monday, (bring your Sunday leftovers) and we will have another Supper / Board Meeting with all members encouraged to attend,  Time for this event, will be 5:30pm until 7:00pm.  Our APTA state by-laws require each chapter to hold at least one membership wide meeting a year, but I think if do this each month, maybe more of us will become more involved in our chapter’s inter workings.  Please feel free to invite a friend to come along with you, for we are not a secret society, you know.  It just seems like it at times!

June also is the end of our APTA physical year.  So some paperwork has to be done over the next couple of weeks, to keep us in line with Nashville.  If you have not renewed your membership in the last few months, just ask Judy Shackelford, if your are in good standing or not.  We want to make sure we have everyone counted for.  We are a rural county, but we don’t want to be the smallest chapter.  Judy’s email is: popandchee@bellsouth.net

I hope you all have been to our new chapter web site: http://hardemancountyapta.org/  It is much easier to use and find what you are looking for.  If you know of anything we need to add to our site, please let us know.  We also have a lot of “friends” on our Facebook page, I just wish we could make them all paying  chapter members!  You can find our Facebook here: The Pillars and Little Courthouse - Facebook.  Also, my brother Woody Savage and I have a website just for historic information about Bolivar.  http://www.historicbolivartn.com/ is full of stories, and information that I bet most of you never knew.
