 Plants and Animals
(Grades 1st-3rd)
1.5 Hours

Students will take a staff led nature walk to the four habitats (marsh, pond, woodland and field) found at Tinker Nature Park. At each location we will talk about the different types of plants and animals that may be found in each habitat. During our walk not only will we be looking for wildlife but also signs of wildlife. Following the hike students will be able to visit the Hansen Nature Center. This is a spring or fall activity.

 Habitat Study
(Grades  4-5)
2.0 Hours

The woodland and field are studied by teams of students that record their data and observations on a work sheet. Plant and animal adaptations and interrelationships are emphasized.
This is a spring or fall activity.

Marsh Ecology
(Grades 5-6)
1 - 1.5 Hours

The marsh ecosystem is studied by using dip nets to collect a variety of aquatic organisms. The organisms are studied and discussed and are taken back to the nature center to be viewed under a microscope.
This is a spring or fall activity.

 Winter Ecology
(Grades 4-7)
2 - 3 Hours

After an indoor introduction, students will use snowshoes  to explore the park.  We will study how plants and animals survive  our tough winters.  Students will search for evidence of winter wildlife such as,  tracks, sounds and scat.  If there is a lack of snow, a regular hike will be taken.
