Hanan Jacoby is a lead economist in the Sustainability and Infrastructure unit of the Development Research Group. With wide-ranging interests in water, agriculture, rural institutions, and human capital, he published articles on land tenancy, canal water allocation, groundwater markets, rural roads, risk-coping, child nutrition and schooling, and on the economics of marriage in journals such as American Economic Review, Economic Journal, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, and Journal of Public Economics. He currently serves as associate editor for Journal of Development Economics. He received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago in 1989.
