LIVING ENVIRONMENT HONORS
(Prerequisite:  Honors Criteria) 
 
This course is similar to the Living Environment Regents Course with several additions.  A broader diversity of topics will be investigated and certain topics such as physiology, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, molecular genetics and inheritance genetics will be addressed in greater depth. 
 
Students will have the opportunity to use state-of-the-art equipment, on a field trip to the DNA Learning Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, to cut DNA fragments using different restriction enzymes. 
 
This course prepares students for the Living Environment Regents Examination, the more comprehensive and rigorous SAT II Examination in Biology and AP Biology.

LAB REQUIREMENT
 
A total of 1200 minutes of laboratory time, with accompanying reports, are required in order to be able to sit for the Regents Exam.
 
Labs are graded as follows:
 20%    PreLab

 20%    Conclusion                                             Learning Statement
 40%    Lab Quiz        
HONORS/AP ELIGIBILITY
 
Please be advised that a minimum average of 86 is required to maintain Honors eligibility and a minimum average of 90 (in Honors Living Environment) is required for AP Biology eligibility. 
 
A minimum average of 86 is required to maintain Honors eligibility in Science for the following year and a minimum average of 90 or is required for an AP Biology recommendation.  Students not maintaining an 86 average will NOT be removed from the course unless requested by a parent and/or recommended by a counselor.  Please see the PARENT PAGE for more details.
