Using Google Meet

For information on how to do a Google meet, here's a document that I pieced together from from various sources - mainly WCPSS but I added a few items. Sorry, but because this site is wide open to the public, I can't put specific Google Meet information here such as how to get into the meet. That will always be through your remind account 15 minutes before the meet.

While you should have your mic muted entering a meet, please unmute it afterwards so that you can join the discussion. The more people who participate, the more interesting our discussions will be. YOU control whether it is a great experience or not because YOUR experiences are what adds to our meets.

Advice for online learning success

Online learning is much different than in-class learning. YOU are the one in control. Which means you need to make your own schedule and STICK TO IT! That's the hard part. Give yourself a reward for doing it right - facetime with a friend afterwards. Penalize yourself if you don't make it the hour you scheduled yourself - 20 pushups or clean the bathroom. Do that for every hour you slack to keep yourself on schedule. Think of every hour as another time to do things right.

I would highly recommend that you follow the advice I gave at the beginning of the year regarding learning and "pancakes". Each learning unit is a plate of 3 pancakes. You can easily eat a stack in one sitting. But what happens if you put it off a day. You tell yourself, "I'll get to it tomorrow". Well, tomorrow comes and now you have 6 pancakes to digest. Or the weekend - and now you have 9 pancakes facing you. Pace yourself; don't try to eat 9 pancakes in a sitting, rather eat three a day. Learning should not be crammed, rather use "paced recall" to maximize your valuable time. I hope this helps. This is advice passed down to all first-year medical students :)

Supplies that you need for this class: a composition book, glue sticks and a pen or pencil. Optional supplies include colored pencils. Some families donate glue sticks packages so that you don't need to cart one back and forth. Glue sticks, facial tissues, colored pencils, and clear tape are always welcomed!
