Introduction to the Principal Investigator:

Dr. YAO, Haimin (ORCID, Scopus, Google Scholar) received his BEng and MEng degrees from Tsinghua University, China in 2000 and 2002, respectively, and Doctor degree in Natural Science from Max-Planck Institute for Metals Research at the University of Stuttgart, Germany in 2006. He joined The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2011 and now is a tenured Associate Professor and Associate Head (Teaching & Learning) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Yao leads a research team studying solid materials with focus on their unique mechanical and physical properties and behaviors especially the structure-property relationships underlying. The aim of their research is to reveal the regularity and unity exhibited by diverse materials, unveil the responsible principles, and apply them in engineering counterparts. Dr. is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and serves as Young editor for Acta Mechanica Sinica, editorial board members for Composites Communication, Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, and Biomimetics.
