An Ethnographic View – The Syndemic of HIV, Substance Abuse and Mental Illness and Engaging in Care in the District of Columbia




This presentation will discuss the findings from a needs assessment which utilized an ethnographic methodology that included observations and interviews at four selected HIV/AIDS clinical care sites and discuss the facilitators and barriers to engagement and retention in HIV care among individuals with HIV, substance use and/or mental health issues.
