SEASONS OF STRENGTH
coming 2024
This project is a labor of love for my hometown of Newnan, Georgia. It is a documentation of what happened March of 2021, when an EF-4 tornado hit the town in one of its most populated and historic areas - what happened during that night and over the course of a year to individual families and to the wider community of Newnan, who rallied under the banner of #NewnanStrong in the storm’s aftermath?
The story and its telling will be guided primarily by a live performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Recomposed by Max Richter.
In this multi-media live performance, we will hear audio clips from interviews with survivors of the storm and their advocates, telling the story from their perspective, their voices interwoven with the live performance of the piece.
Above the orchestra, we will project clips from media coverage of the storm and its aftermath, as well as footage of visual artists from Newnan interpreting both the loss and the hope after the storm.
On stage in front of the orchestra, dancers and actors will accent and uplift the survivor’s stories and help to unify the journey of the music and the storm through their movement and words.
The mission of this piece is to provide a space for a community that has had to remain so strong for each other to process this massive, traumatic event together. For us to feel seen, heard, and loved, as we ask the questions: who are we, what have we learned, and where are we going?
