What do you like best about this course?:

I really enjoyed the experiments that we did.

She was really helpful and made everything clear.

I learned more about cognition in my 1.5 credit lab than I did in my actual cognition course. Miss Rehrig was a fantastic teacher I loved coming to class.

I liked doing the different experiments.

Learning how to write a Lab report in APA format

I loved how I felt like I understood each step of the process. It made me confident that I could re-create these experiments.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

I think the lab computers should be wiped clean of other work before the start of the semester because data could not be saved successfully because there was not enough space to save it.

Nothing, she did an amazing job.

Nothing, the course is fine how it currently is.

I wouldnt change a thing

Nothing.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

The lab reports definitely made us think critically and logically, which was challenging at times, but it resulted in us better understanding why our hypotheses were correct or not.

She always gave us ways to make our papers and projects better.

I learned so much about cognition and to flawlessly write a lab report.

This course bettered my APA writing.

it has helped me understand APA format better

Because she was so young I was inspired to work harder to my own personal goals.

Other comments or suggestions::

I think Mrs. Rehrig is a great teacher for this course and I would recommend it to anyone considering taking a psychology lab.

Best lab instructor I could have wanted

She was a good instructor and was always willing to help.

Very great class.

What do you like best about this course?:

Some of the labs were fun at least the way interacting with the other students

the professor!

Doing a different mini-experiment each week was fun

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

Maybe have more labs where students work together since it isn't a big class

more interesting labs

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

The instructor's high knowledge of technology did help to convey information and created an ideal learning environment.

I know now how to effectively read a lab report

very helpful! learned how to perfectly write a lab report in APA format!

What do you like best about this course?:

How helpful she was when any students were confused or encountered problems when conducting our labs.

The instructor was very accommodating when reviewing drafts of our assignments before we submitted them. She ensured we would do well in the class if we tried.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

Nothing.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

She has helped me with my research paper writing skills. Before this course I had very little experience with writing research papers.

Gwen was an amazing instructor. She did whatever necessary to make sure we understood everything covered in this class. She was friendly and approachable. I do not particularly enjoy writing but she made it more do-able. I learned to love cognition because of her.

Other comments or suggestions::

The instructor was extremely helpful in responding to questions and helping students understand the material.

She always answered emails and quickly, and was very helpful overall.

What do you like best about this course?:

The hands-on application of cognitive science and the ability to further understand experimental study designs.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

Maybe try to make the class for more like a 'whole' as opposed to the feeling of just individual students. Regardless, I really enjoyed your way of teaching and this course.

We would only use a half hour to hour of our three hour allotted time. Instead of cutting class early every week, combine the experiment and analysis and then use the second class to work on our assignments- this way there is more guidance on how to write and research.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

She helped me get a hands on application of the psychology knowledge I have been learning my entire college experience.

What do you like best about this course?:

All the videos that were shown, the discussion about accents and dialects and the quiz we took to see where we were from

It was interesting to understand different dialects and the language problems people can have and how we annunciate different syllables. The slides were very clear and provided a lot of information. The exams were fair and were straightforward.

Really appreciate that the homework was interesting! I feel like the Prof. really put a lot of time and effort in to find relevant and interesting materials for us to prepare before class. Also mixed up the format so it simply wasn't all reading.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

Have less readings for the forums because some could readings could take a while. Also, have a distinct day of when things are due (for example, assignments due every Monday, or readings every Wednesday and Monday) so it is a better reminder.

I would have a text book to explain the material in another way. I mean I liked not having to buy an expensive textbook however, it was hard to understand some of the material to a greater level at times.

The only thing I wish was diferent was for the discussion forum posts to be due later/closer to class time, I undersand and and appreciate how Prof. Rehrig needed time to grade and respond (which she did above and beyond and very helpful) to questions but 8pm is a hard timeline if you work nights and moreso have mornings free.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

It was interesting to learn about the way that we produce language. Having descriptive slides and going over each one helped me to understand and was amazing what we can do.

Really interesting, Prof. Rehrig had a lot of enthusiasm for the material and this came through. It was an enjoyable course and I learned many interesting things.

What do you like best about this course?:

resubmitting assignments

I know nothing about writing science before taking this class. I have learned a lot by practice my writing weekly

The ability to interact with other classmates even though it is an online course. Also the opportunity to correct and resubmit our assignments based on feedback. I enjoyed learning how to explain and display our scientific data in the results section.

taught many things on excel

I like the feedback, so I was able to learn from previous mistakes or uncertainty.

I enjoyed being able to take part in past groundbreaking studies. By actually doing the experiment I learned so much more and helped my overall understanding. I also liked the set up of the course and breakdown of assignments. It's a class you have to work hard in, but because of the way it was broken down it wasn't overwhelming.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

actually teach the class, not just put up power-points online and telling us to use those to teach ourselves how to write, having the chat sessions differently, more learning about why we are doing an experiment rather than just asking questions about the weeks assignment.

The scientific writing slide could be more specific

Suggest more ideas/limitations for the Final Project.

make better video tutorials so they are easier to follow

I would change the chat room portion of the course. I found that to be confusing and hard to keep up with especially when I would see a question I also had but had no idea where the answer was. It was too disorganized, so what I would do is put the class into groups and create multiple group chats and assign a certain amount of time for each group. That way it's easier to locate questions and answers.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

no.

Writing concisely & effectively. Presenting Data.

Through my college career I have learned a lot about studies done in psychology, however actually being a subject in the study (even if it was just for class data) greatly improved my understanding of them, why they were done, and what their findings showed.

Other comments or suggestions::

I felt like I did not learn anything since it was all online.

I feel that the quantitative methods course helped more in this course than the cognition course. Have a wonderful summer.

What do you like best about this course?:

The professor's fair grading and passion for the material.

The Professor

The videos we watched in class made the lectures more interactive.

I liked that the professor told us exactly what we had to do and was very clear about the due dates.

I thought it was interesting

Everything

The learning resource is great.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

I would try to incorporate more videos into the lectures to make the class a little more exciting, rather than it being mostly slides.

Hard to get all material in, but the professor did it and very knowledgeably as well

I thought it was taught very well

I would not do anything differently;it is perfect

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

I learned more about my major, linguistics, and how to apply it in a different way in terms of language learning.

every way possible

I found a lot of the topics interesting and engaging.

I liked learning about the neurological impairments and research on how infants acquire language

I've learn more about languages and understand more about language processing.

Other comments or suggestions::

What do you like best about this course?:

The pace of assignments were easy to follow and ensure the meeting of deadlines.

Resubmissions and the feedback we got were very helpful

Really liked how final project was broken into multiple sections and then given feedback on. Helped with the stress of everything around exam time.

The ability to resubmit assignments. Makes it easier to clarify and learn information better

I like that we had a good level of autonomy when conducting our own experiment. I also loved that we had the opportunity to revise our reports and resubmit them.

I liked the participation during every week to talk about our experiences

I knew what was expected of me and the feedback for assignments were clear and helpful.

I liked that I got more experience using excel. This is a skill that I will definitely use outside of this course! The tutorials at the beginning of the course were very helpful! I liked the chat sessions because a lot of students participated. I also liked that the final project was broken up. This kept me motivated and it helped to get a lot of feedback!

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

Honestly, nothing. This course was extremely effective for me overall.

I would not have this course online, it is very hard to learn from powerpoints and get feedback through a message. Limits the class and learning extremely

I have taken other research methods/ manuscript writing courses and I believe that I would not have understood the requirements of this course if I did not have previous experience. I would show students more examples of good scientific writing and would have students read more modern articles. I do not feel that this course truly shows students how to come up with a novel hypothesis that is backed by previous research. I would first teach students how to run literature searches, then have them come up with a hypothesis based on the previous literature, and then have them write an introduction with more than 2 scientific papers. This class seemed to do the opposite in which we came to class and came up with a project without reading the literature. Then we had to find papers that supported our project. I think this should be flipped around. I also think more time on the final project would be beneficial. This way students would understand what it is like to carry out a well researched project and could write a very polished paper by the end.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

Positive feedback encouraging changes

The feedback forced me to think differently to further add on to my work

Understanding how to write more scientifically.

I was initially scared to take this course because I didn't get an A in cognition, but this course truly enhanced my learning and helped me understand certain topics more.

I did have to do a lot more thinking about the material and how to write scientific papers

Encouraged me to ask more questions and think deeply about why certain outcomes occurred.

Other comments or suggestions::

I would continue to have the class broken up into sections the way Professor Rehrig did it especially for the final. It made the final more doable and made me less nervous.

I think video lectures that explain how to write intro, methods, results, and discussions with examples would be beneficial as extra resources.

What do you like best about this course?:

Multiple chances to improve grades on assignments

I like that this course truly taught you how to write a research paper. The skills that I practiced in this class are ones that I'm going to be utilizing in my future career.

We learned in depth about how to conduct scientific research and how to analyze papers for their core content.

If you were teaching this course, what would you do differently?:

If I were teaching this course, I would grade the weekly assignment a little more leniently. There were so many assignments for this class so it was very difficult to complete each one to the best of your ability.

In what ways, if any, has this course or the instructor encouraged your intellectual growth and progress?:

Gwendolyn was an excellent online instructor. She responded super promptly to any e-mails or questions you had. She also always made sure to explain her feedback in great detail. Some parts of this course were very challenging for me, but I knew Gwen was just an e-mail away and I really commend her for putting such hard work into helping us all.

Other comments or suggestions::

Extra Credit opportunities

I believe that this class should be 3 credits. For the various weekly assignment, and large final paper, 1 credit doesn't seem to be enough for the amount of hours put into this class. The department should either increase it to 3 credits, and leave the course as is, or reduce the amount of assignments and make it 1 credit.
