How and What to Pack
As you begin planning what to bring to Guatemala, here are some tips for preparation.
Passport and Visa
Please apply for your passport as soon as possible! The wait for your passport can take a couple of months at this point, and you don't want to miss the trip for lack of this important documentation. This page will help you locate a passport office near you. If you already have a passport, make sure that it is valid for another 6 months past your trip’s departure date. There is no Visa requirement for Guatemala.
Yes, you'll have to get some shots. Your best bet is to contact your primary care physician to schedule your immunizations. Find some general information on this here. The kinds of immunizations you'll need depend on your medical history and prior foreign travel. Let your doctor know that we'll mostly be in urban locations, which will minimize the number of immunizations you'll receive. Also, be sure to request an antibiotic to take with you for stomach issues (take our word for it - you'd rather have it and not use it than need it and not have it!).
Paperwork for Winona State
For Winona State you must complete the student packet from the OCED/travel study website. Submit these forms back to Dr. Briggs once you've completed them.
If you have questions about financial aid, please contact Mari Livingston in WSU’s financial aid office.
