Corona Virus Distant Learning Clarity

posted Mar 17, 2020, 8:09 AM by GMHSLibrary
Dear Colleagues:

I would like to take the opportunity to bring clarity to our current situation regarding distant learning.  Yesterday afternoon, Mike and I were part of a conference call with Superintendent Jacobs and the administrative team to discuss many items.  One of those items discussed revolved around, what are teachers responsible for regarding distant learning?  The direct quote that Superintendent Jacobs used in the conversation was sending home  "Engaging and fun" activities that extend your current or future curriculum.  It is impossible to replicate the classroom experience via distant learning.  Not knowing when we will be getting back to normal, sending home "Engaging and fun" activities is what the GEA is suggesting.  We are hopeful that all members will send home "Engaging and fun" activities to their students that require no collection or grades.  According to MTA, DESE will be expanding what distant learning looks like later on this week.  Mike and I are in constant contact with Superintendent Jacobs and will update membership will all new and pertinent information.
