Overview of the session:

Google Maps - GTA UK - July 2010 - Tom Barrett


ACTIVITY 1: 


Work together to add some Maths shape questions using what we can see from the aerial imagery and from Streetview.

Follow this link
  1. Read the instructions on the "Start Here" pin
  2. Browse the city's imagery
  3. Focus on a significant or appropriate landmark or feature
  4. Add a placemark and set a related maths question about SHAPE
  5. Placemarks can be customised by embedding images etc
  6. Be sure to change the placemark icon to match the age group you have written it for, see the guide >>

ACTIVITY 2:

Story Maps:

Write part of a short story using Google Maps as the tool as well as the inspiration and stimulus. 

  1. Read the starter pin "1. The Bridge" this is the start of your story.
  2. Choose one of the 5 different coloured story paths, be sure to look where they end up so you have an idea where you are going.
  3. Continue the story from the first pin by adding your own short paragraph in a placemark anywhere along the path.
  4. Match the pin colour to the path.
  5. Try to pick out visible details from the imagery to place your pin and help with your story.
  6. Remember to use STREETVIEW, PHOTOS and WIKIPEDIA layers to help you with the narrative.
  7. Collaborate with your team on the same path / Work on your own or in pairs.
  8. Or even use the Line tool to draw your own path and take the story in a different direction.
