Shutout against Google

Stanford 37 - 0 Google

The Stanford graduate rugby team continued its unbeaten run in the XV-man code with a hard-fought and resounding victory against Google. Both teams came into this game with some crunching hits and big runners. With the stands close to capacity, this was a "friendly" in little more than name.

The game followed a similar pattern to McGeorge. Physically we were outmatched in terms of size, but in terms of technical ability and fitness Google were not able to keep up. In open play rucking, tackling and attack we showed that we have a dangerous team. The set pieces creaked at times under the weight of an oversized Google pack and we will need to address this if we are to be victorious in Austin.

The highlight of the game has to be the amazing defense that kept a team with 4 athletic runners over 250lbs from crossing the line. We made the decision to play the game in their half, perhaps with a few too many kicks, but when they threatened our lines some incredible cover tackling ensured that we made it a shutout.

Special congratulations to Evan who once again demonstrated what a quality player he is with a score and some great assists. On a day where the outer backs got almost no go-forward ball he made the best of every opportunity he got. We will sorely miss him in Austin... but maybe he's planning to buy a last minute ticket?
