v-neck halter

this sexy halter will get everyone's attention.  from McCall's Stitchery, Motifs in Crochet, Vol. III, 1972.
this pattern uses sport weight yarn and an H hook.
GAUGE: Each motif = 3".
Notes: Join each rnd with a sl st in top of ch 3. Cut yarn, pull end through lp on hook. Join new color with sl st. Work over ends of previous color and new color to hide them.

TRIANGLE HALTER: Motif (make 17): With first color, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, (ch 1, 3 dc in ring) 3 times, ch 1; join, end off (see Notes).
Rnd 2: Join 2nd color in any ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 in next sp) 3 times; join; end off.
Rnd 3: Join 3rd color in any corner sp (center of 6 dc group), ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp, ch 1, (3 dc in next sp; ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 in next sp) 3 times, 3 dc in next sp, ch 1; join; end off.

Joining: Following chart, using colors to match one edge to be joined, sew motifs tog.

Edging:  Join any desired color yarn in ch-1 corner sp (A on chart); working across lower edge, * ch 3; holding back last lp on hook, work dc in next sp between 3-dc groups, tr in next sp between 3-dc groups, yo hook and through 3 lps on hook, ch 1; holding back last lp on hook, work tr in sp last worked in, d-tr in joining of motifs (B on chart), tr in next sp between 3-dc groups, yo hook and through 4 lps on hook, ch 1; holding back last lp on hook, work tr in sp last worked in, dc in next sp between 3-dc groups, dc in corner ch-1 sp, yo hook and through 4 lps on hook, ch 3, sc in same corner ch-1 sp, repeat from * across lower edge, end at C on chart, * * ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st, repeat from * * around, end sl st in first st. End off.

FINISHING: Steam-press lightly.

TIES (make 4): With double strand of any color yarn, make chains 20" long. Sew a tie to each point at neck and lower edge.
