Coaches
Barbarian Rugby Club, founded in October of 2013 (AKA Gridley Youth Rugby), is a non-profit community-based sports organization that welcomes boys and girls U10, U12, Middle School, and High School age athletes. No experience is needed to learn the greatest game on earth. We are blessed to have several volunteer coaches who have experience of playing rugby either growing up, in high school, college, and some who continue to play in adult leagues.
Coach Jonah Lessard, will be coaching his third season as the Barbarian Rugby Club (Gridley Youth Rugby) Boy's High School head coach. He is a USA Rugby Certified Coach and has played college-level rugby.
Coach Norm has been with Barbarian Rugby Club (Gridley Youth Rugby) since its inception in the 2013-14 season. He is a USA Rugby certified coach. In the 20-21 season, he will be the Assistant Coach for our Barbarian Boys High School team including 9th - 12th grade age athletes.
Elias Faupula has been with Barbarian Rugby Club (Gridley Youth Rugby) since its inception in the 2013-14 season. In the 2020-21 season, he will be an Assistant Coach for our Barbarian High School Boys. Coach Faupula attended BYU where he both played both football and rugby.
Coach Rau has been with Barbarian Rugby Club (Gridley Youth Rugby) since its inception in the 2013-14 season. In the 2020-21 season, he will be coaching our Barbarian Girls High School 15's.
Coach Garvin has experience as a football coach and joined our Barbarian Rugby Club (Gridley Youth Rugby) Coaching Staff as the head coach for Boy's Middle School during the 18-19 Season. He continues coaching our Boy's Middle School team in the 20-21 Season.
Coach Preston joined our coaching staff in the 18-19 season working with our U10 team. Coach Preston is a USA Rugby Certified Coach, is a school administrator and has been a teacher for many years. We are excited to have him out on the pitch during our 20-21 season coaching our U12 team!
Matt Jones was an Assistant Coach joining us out on the pitch during the 18-19 season for our U10 team. Coach Jones will continue in the 20-21 season with our U10's again. We are very lucky to have so many great support coaches on the pitch this season! Thank you coaches for their time and commitment to our youth!
