Membership

Membership fluctuates around 50 to 60, including the Musical Director and the leading musicians. It is important to bring in new members each year and this normally happens through the personal contact and recommendation of choir members often following concert appearances. There has been a recent influx of new members but as with many male voice choirs who tend to rely heavily on the males in their later years this has coincided with members retired through ill health or have passed away.

In its formative years members were drawn mainly from the mining community of clay and coal industry, but today, with a much larger catchment area and the changing way of life, the choir has members from different backgrounds and occupations. Standing shoulder to shoulder are miners, teachers, engineers, GPs, company directors, civil servants, policemen, joiners, builders, accountants, amongst others, some now in retirement but all brought together with one common interest and aim in mind, that of performing choral music to the highest possible standard.

Anyone wishing to make enquiries about membership with a view to joining the choir should contact the Choir Registrar gmv.choir@gmail.com
