Since Sep 2010 I have been a Professor in Management Science at the London School of Economics (link),occupying the Chair of Management Science and Mathematics. From 1996 to 2010 I was a Research Staff Member (RSM) in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, in the Theory of Computation
group. My research interests include random structures and algorithms,
and combinatorial optimization. From 1992 to 1996 I was in Computer
Sciences, working primarily on IBM AntiVirus. RSMs do theoretical research (see my publications) and practical projects for IBM and its customers (of which Punch and Die Optimization was my favorite). The main T.J. Watson site, in Yorktown Heights NY, is a 1961 Eero Saarinen building that's still divinely modernistic. There aren't many good photos on the web, so here's one of mine.
