Recording, Editing, and Encoding PC Game Footage (Fraps)

Preamble

Hello there, and welcome to the VERY FIRST tutorial by me: Green, for everybody on the internet. I am going to try a few things, and if they don't work, please post a comment at the bottom of this page.

Here is the reason I have created this guide: Being a beginner myself, I have spent 5 weeks, researching, looking at tutorials, and playing around with a LOT of programs. This guide shows the final method I tried, and for speed, quality, and general satisfaction... this method is the best way to go about editing and encoding video for absolutely free.

I'll be writing other guides on jazzing up and professionalizing videos(with logos, intro videos etc) as I learn new techniques, so check this site every now and then for news posts on the home page. Enjoy the tutorial!

and now, for the What, how long, and why table. I may change it to just another sub heading, but lets see how this looks:

The Steps To Complete

What are we going to do?
How long is it going to take?(For the purposes of this tutorial)
Do I have to do this? (Optional or not?)
Why should I learn this?

 About 10 minutes
No If you understand what I'm talking about, rather than just copying in settings, you will be far better off in the long run when you decide to play around with the settings.
can't remember, if I do, I'll put a link in here.
Install and configure(if necessary) The tools of the trade
 About an hour
YES if you can't be bothered setting up a few programs properly now, then you're in for a few weeks of hell later... and possibly a reinstall of windows(not because of the programs destroying windows, but because of your computer becoming so disorganized due to lack of planning).
 I'll link these later.
 Record some footage
 About 3 minutes
yesself explanatory, but if you must know, then it's because without any footage, you can't edit or encode it... and don't download something from youtube, because youtube video is not very good for editing.
Figured it out myself, because Fraps is so easy to use.
 Edit the footage
About 15 minutes (if you follow the tutorial to the letter)
 Yes
Because sooner or later you are going to edit footage anyway, so may as well learn some basic stuff now.

 Encode the footage
 Setup: 5 minutes or so.
Wait time: varies... usually between 2 minutes and 10 minutes for a short clip.
Yes
Try uploading raw fraps recording to youtube... that's 4GB of files for about 2 minutes of footage(at 1080p anyway). If you encode, that 4GB will jump down to 120mb or so.

 Upload to the youtubes
This varies so much based on your internet connection, I can't really tell you... but you can relax once this step is complete.
 No
If you don't want to put it on the internet you don't have to.
 Youtube!
 Complete all of the above
About 2 hours... oh wow, that's quick compared to how long it took me to learn (5 weeks).
Yes
 Not Applicable
uh...
