New Shelford Monday cycling club

Fresh air, exercise, the open road - and cake. What's not to like?

Starting on 2 March, a small gang of cyclists will be meeting at Cara Coffee for a ride around the quieter lanes of South Cambs. Gathering for a caffeine fix from 9am, we will set off at 09:30 and return around 1½ - 2 hours later for some well earned cake.

So if you are at a loose end on Monday mornings, come and join us. You don't need a fancy bicycle, just a serviceable push bike or electric bike.

Rest assured, we all keep an eye out for one another; nobody gets left behind.

Great Shelford artists new exhibition

There's a fascinating 'Feast and Fast' free exhibition at the Fitzwilliam museum in Cambridge (galleries 11,12 & 13) until 26th April 2020.

Great Shelford residents Susannah and Rosemary Bangham (Cambridge Artmakers) were asked to design a box for the 'Museum in a Box' part of the exhibition which is featured in the creative zone. The inspiration for this commission was taken from an exhibit in the gallery called the 'Wisbech Swan Register' which records the official branding marks of ownership.

Three framed original linoprints, created in the Cambridge Artmakers studio are displayed in the creative zone. Prints are available from the museum and originals from Cambridge Artmakers or the artist herself, here in Great Shelford.

Hinton Way roadworks

Roadworks on Hinton Way have been causing major problems.

Hinton Way, Great Shelford was closed near the sewage pumping station approx 300 metres East of the A1307 for emergency work by Anglian Water. It reopened on Feb 6.

"This is not acceptable," said Sue Tombs who lives off Hinton Way.

"Not only are motorists badly affected especially those going and coming to the Park and Ride but there will be no buses along Hinton Way till 18th February – and what about the bin lorries and more importantly Ambulances. This matter really needs to be raised with the media to get both Anglian Water and the Council to pull their fingers out and respect Great Shelford Residents.

"I live off Hinton Way and use it each day to get to the Park and Ride – this morning I had to leave my home much earlier to take the diversion to the Park and Ride – the diversion means going over two railway crossings which might be against me. In the evening it takes far longer to get home due to the tail backs on Granhams Road due to the Railway crossing and people turning onto Shelford Road." Updated Feb 3 2020
