About the Great Plains Chapter

The Great Plains Chapter of Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, Inc. (GNSI), based in Lincoln, Nebraska, was founded in 2006 and is made up of members from Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska. The group began meeting in October, 2005. Meetings and events will be held six times per year. Our goal is to have bimonthly workshops, demos, field trips and host an exhibit in the fall. Members, and anyone interested in Scientific Illustration, are welcome to participate.

Members of the GNSI, Inc. Great Plains Chapter are professional scientific illustrators and educators with an informal goal of education and outreach to generate awareness of our unique regional Great Plains ecosystems. Through our art and educational programs about the incredible environments in Nebraska, we encourage conservation and preservation while creating great art. We strive to make our artwork realistic, detailed and scientifically accurate while at the same time aesthetic and visually pleasing.

“Scientific Illustration is a marriage of science and art in a way that’s elegant and informative. I want the information to be beautiful, but if it doesn’t deliver the information, it’s ultimately a failure.” - Edward Bell, Art Director of Scientific American magazine
