Members of the Great Bay Paddlers share a common interest in paddling the coastal waters, rivers, creeks, and lakes of Ocean, Burlington and Atlantic Counties in New Jersey. Experience levels vary from Beginner to Expert while boats range from Sit-on-Tops to Expedition Sea Kayaks.

Our club was first organized in the spring of 2004 under the name of "Friends of First Bridge." The name was later changed to what we are known as today:

Great Bay Paddlers.

We've watched our membership grow each year as word spreads to other kayaking enthusiasts. Several of our members come from as far away as New York and Pennsylvania! We are joined by members of the Outdoor Club of South Jersey on many of our co-sponsored paddles.

As a member of GBP, you not only paddle with a fun-loving group of paddlers, but also have the opportunity to paddle in unique locations you may not know about. With the wide variety of kayaks used by our paddlers, you will have the chance to "try another out" before upgrading your own. We also host Rescue Demonstrations and Paddling Technique Sessions, offer discounts from local area merchants, and hold Out of Season gatherings just to keep in touch.

We plan numerous trips throughout the year with the latest schedule posted on the Club Calendar page.

Our formal meetings, are usually held one or two times a year. They are open to non-members and guests, and a great way to learn about the club and to meet our members. We will frequently have a guest speaker or video from 7:00 to 8:00 followed by a short session of club business. Meetings generally conclude by 8:30 to 9:00 then we enjoy refreshments and have the opportunity to share experiences with our fellow members.

In all, we have fun and enjoy paddling with new-found friends and to new places. Join us at a meeting or on a paddle and see for yourself what we are all about.

On Great Bay paddler trips participants must either be an ACA member and supply their ACA number OR sign a liability waiver and pay a $5 per paddler fee. The fees are forwarded to the American Canoe Association. Waiver forms are available on the club’s website and we request you download it, read it and complete the waiver prior to arriving at the check-in.
