I was born in Colorado and raised on my grandparents’ cattle ranch. My first horse was an old retired cow horse. The tall black stallion was caught wild on the 26,000 acre ranch some 15 years earlier by my uncle and one of my grandfather's cowboys. I learned to shoe horses by watching the farrier and holding them for him when he would come every few weeks to shoe some 20 head of the ranch's draft and cattle horses. Grandfather motivated me by saying that, “If you want to ride on the Mountain with the cowboys, then you will have to learn to shoe your own horse!”
I also learned to weld and repair the ranch equipment and eventually returned to the ranch and ran it for my grandmother back in the 1980's. I revived my great grandfather's old coal forge that I loved to crank the blower on when I was a very young child. When I forged my first project, and at the ringing sound of the old anvil, a new lifechanging event was forged. I slowly became an Artist/Blacksmith. I’ve worked on wrought iron projects in large homes and commercial architectural projects in Aspen, Vail, Western Colorado and then as far away as artwork that I made and installed myself in Antarctica.
My hand forged art projects are made from recycled iron, new steel and sometimes, old railroad spikes and old horseshoes. I sometimes also use recycled lumber for charcoal at my great-grandfather's old forge and still pound out great art projects on his old anvil.
