This program is designed to assist graduate students in acquiring the skills and knowledge required to be successful in a job search.  Information will be given to assist students in identifying options, translating credentials and skills, networking, interviewing, and negotiating salary and benefits.

Copyright 101: Vital Information for Graduate Student Creators and Consumers

This session will cover fundamental principles of copyright law as it applies to the graduate student’s own composition and to the use of copyrighted material in his/her document.  Handouts will include a Fair Use checklist and case study that will be discussed during the session.

Writing in S.T.E.M. Disciplines: Why Engineers Should Write Well

A commonly held belief is that engineers (and all ‘science folk’) cannot write well.  This session aims to debunk that myth and if it applies to you, then change it!  We will cover writing techniques expected from the S.T.E.M. disciplines, discuss resources available, and most importantly, discover the reason as to why you should want to write well.

ETD Word Templates: How to Use

Session will cover how to comply with formatting requirements the simple way: by using the Word template provided by the College of Graduate Studies. We will cover how to write within the template, or cut and paste existing content. Use the template as you start your writing journey and you will find formatting 
to be stress-free. Bring your writing with you on a flash drive and begin during the session!

ETD Open Labs: Formatting and Submission

This open lab is designed to provide one-on-one assistance with formatting your electronic thesis or dissertation to comply with UT Graduate Council regulations, and submitting to OhioLINK (and ProQuest UMI, for dissertations). In particular, we will help with using Word and the newly released Word templates to achieve correct formatting. Please save your document to your "H" drive or bring it on a flash drive to the lab. There will be two facilitators circulating to provide assistance.

Thesis and Dissertation 

ETD Preparation and Submission Workshops for Main Campus Programs

  • This program will provide an overview of the electronic submission process for graduate theses and dissertations within the context of graduation requirements for the Graduate College Office on the Main Campus as well as a presentation of the submission steps for OhioLINK. Additional sources of information will be identified to provide students with the tools necessary to complete the electronic submission process.

Career Development 

Career Exploration and Self Assessment

Career planning throughout your graduate program will help you to identify and achieve your professional goals.  The planning process begins with self assessment.  This program will help you to understand that effective career decision-making begins with knowing yourself.  Topics to be covered include exploring interests, skills, values, increasing career awareness; and understanding the connection between degree/education and careers.

Please join us at The Toledo Zoo to explore The Lights Before Christmas display. Each year, The Toledo Zoo is transformed into a winter wonderland, featuring over one million lights and hundreds of lighted animal images.

Members of The University of Toledo community are invited to attend three open forums to share their views and provide feedback for the self-study report UT is preparing for its 2012 visit from The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for continuing accreditation.
The forums will address three topics that are crucial to the future of the university — merging the cultures of the campuses, student learning and effective teaching, and economic viability. These topics also impact each of the five criterions of the self-study.
As a valuable member of the campus community, your views and input on how well UT meets HLC criteria are very valuable. Therefore, we would like to extend a special invitation to you to attend one or all of the programs that will be held in connection with the special emphasis study.
