From the Pastor

Happy Easter!

He is risen indeed!!!

Most of the time when we hear the words, 'He is risen indeed!," we are more concerned about the enthusiasm with which they are uttered than with what they mean. In the Greek language, this perfect tense connotes action in the past that has implications for the present moment that has great application for the future as well.

This excitement is the by-product of what has already taken place, it is not about what emotion we can create but rather the result of what has been accomplished for our sake that now generates lasting excitement in our lives.

The beginning of the good news of Jesus the Anointed that the writer of St. Mark signals at the outset of the Gospel finds final expression in the once-and-for-all-time Cross. However, suffering and death are not the end of the story. Otherwise, the Cross is simply a past tense event that has no present value, and we are left with the centurion's summary, "So this is the Son of God?"

Nor is the resurrection yesterday's news. The women approach the tomb with yesterday's news, too. Their reality is that the stone is very large, not to mention that Jesus is dead. Even upon hearing that yesterday's news is their today and tomorrow, they flee the tomb and tell no one anything about what they have seen and heard because they are afraid. The resurrection story lies ahead of them, when death gives way to life.

However, this is not the end of the story. It is only the beginning of the Good News in Jesus the Anointed and now resurrected. This reality for the women who journey to see the one who goes ahead of them But most of all, it is also our journey for the one who suffered and died on a cross and went ahead of the women who came to the stone-rolled-away-from-the-tomb who is the one goes in front of us in faith.

And just as the gospel does not end with Chapter 16, we await God's final ending to life that is without end. This is the story of the church. This is our story!! He is risen indeed!

While We Wait...

One Friday, desolate!

The next day, isolate!

We knew he would return to us,

As words clearly dictate!

He came to be a sacrifice,

Straight from the Father's heart'

He came because he surely knew,

Our worlds would fall apart.

He understood how it would end,

But chose that broken road...

Because he knew we needed him,

To help us bear our load.

Born to bring salvation,

With grace wrapped up in creed;

The Christ-Child would grow up to be,

The Savior we would need!

Born to bring redemption,

God's mercy to receive;

His light and love would intertwine,

When our hearts choose to believe!

On Friday, he would die!

The next day, we would wait!

And then, he will return to use,

With a glimpse of heaven's gate!
