Catapult Showdown Competition: See Juneau's finest as they HURL & CHUNK pumpkins! Yes, it's THAT extreme sport. Age division specify min. 2#, 4#, or 8# pumpkin (or winter squash). Power by hand and crank; no motors, gas, pressure, or explosive materials. Safety rules include operator helmets, goggles, & stress-test before competition. Back-stop will be May Flower Island Causeway. Must be able to skid onto beach or assemble at starting line. Rules adopted from www.punkinchunkin.com/machine-rules. $20 per catapult entry; spectators free. Food & beverages available. Make it a picnic!
Big cash prizes: $75 prize per age division; $150 grand prize; ribbons!

Great Pumpkin Festival, State Fair, Juneau: NEW ON DISPLAY: Catapults, preserves (no fish or meats; seal oil o.k.), arts: fall scene, any medium; corn husk craft, paper mache, pumpkin/winter squash carvings, market-quality vegetables or fruits IN ADDITION TO: largest vegetable or fruit, veg heads, youth & 4-H project display, and the great pumpkin weigh-off. ALL ENTRANTS draw for fantastic door prizes! Recognition & ribbons for all!
Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off: Cash Prizes | $50, $25.
12:00-5:00PM | Entrants check-in (except pumpkin culinary which is entered Saturday) $5 fee for up to three entries and free entry to day's program.
5:00 PM | Fair Opens to Public: Admission $5 adult; $3 youth; free to 5 & under. 10 and under need to be accompanied by an adult. Exhibits, Fair Foods including Barbecue, Carnival Games, Live Music & Show, Catapult Exhibit. Get your pumpkin early with a pumpkin fundraiser sale.
5:30PM | Live Music with Headline Group I: Crusty Old Farts Ensemble. Don't worry: they're all about rockability, with favorite tunes from the 70's to the more recent past.
6:00PM | Live and Silent Auction in the gallery: Visit the gallery throughout evening for auctions, pumpkin sale, and more.
7:00PM | Presentations by youth & community groups on main stage.
7:45-9:00PM | Headline Acoustic Group II: Hillbilly Honeys on main stage.
9:00PM FAIR CLOSES FOR THE EVENING: Take your old and new friends downtown!
