Local Test of Metal Registration Sells Out

posted 10 Dec 2010 15:52 by Scott Park

The Test of Metal locals-only registration period—which opened to residents living from from Furry Creek to Darcy at 6pm, Dec. 1—closed at 9:07 pm the same evening when all 200 reserved spaces were filled, just three hours after opening.

The Test of Metal continued with the locals-only registration period after the success of the past three years.

“It went really smoothly,” said Race Director Cliff Miller. “It seems we sell the first 100 spaces really quickly,  and then the next hundred take a little time. Still, we didn't advertise this registration beyond our past riders list and the website, and the spaces still go quickly.”

Local riders who were not successful at this registration period still have the opportunity to register at the general registration at 6pm PST on January 1, 2011.

Miller also said that the Test of Metal will continue with its no wait-list policy of the past couple of years.

The Test of Metal, a 67 kilometre mountain bike race, is the most successful cross-country mountain bike in Canada and has sold out for the last 14 years.

Test of Metal Inc. is a not-for-profit limited company run entirely by volunteers. Since its inception, the Test of Metal has donated more than $125,000 to community organizations and events.
Registrations will only be accepted on-line through the Test of Metal website at www.testofmetal.com.

UCI Adds U23 Race to MTB World Cup

posted 30 Nov 2010 15:00 by Keith Ryan

Canadian Cyclist has learned that the UCI intends to split the Elite men's field at World Cup cross-country races in 2011. The Under-23 and elite men will now race at separate times. Until now, the two categories have raced together, with the top U23 riders identified in a separate podium presentation. Some of the top U23 riders, such as Matthias Flückiger (Trek World Racing), are already finishing on the Elite podium, but in general U23 men have had difficulty cracking to top-10 in the World Cup. At this time, it appears that the U23 women will still race with the Elite women, although the possibly of a staggered start has been broached.
