Dr. Goovaerts will teach a one-week short course titled "Geostatistical Analysis of Environmental Datain the Dept. Applied Mechanics & Hydraulics NITK, Surathkal this coming February.
This course will introduce a suite of geostatistical methods for the spatial analysis of environmental data, including the computation and modeling of spatial patterns, spatial interpolation using kriging techniques, cross-validation and jackknife, probability mapping and stochastic simulation, geographically-weighted regression, and space-time interpolation. Lectures will alternate with analysis of environmental data using the BioMedware software SpaceStat.

One of the main findings is that significantly fewer samples exceeded the action level of 15 ppb at State-controlled sampling sites relative to voluntary or homeowner-driven sampling sites. In other words, based on the State-controlled sentinel sampling program the situation has been steadily improving since the State started collecting samples last February while the analysis of the other database, which represents 80% of the total number of samples collected so far, indicates otherwise.
