Baptism of Children

Congratulations on your decision to have your child baptized in the Catholic Faith! We are eager to welcome your little one!

Baptism, the first sacrament we receive is so important, we want to share it with our children as soon as we can, so there is no minimum age requirement for baptism.

For a child who is six years old and under:

Parents may contact the Parish Office at 858-271-0207 to receive a baptism packet and sign up for a baptism class.

Baptism classes are required for all parents and godparents. This class instructs parents and godparents on the meaning of baptism, the responsibilities of raising the child in the practice of the faith, important practical advice for living the faith at home, as well as information on the actual Baptism ceremony.

If you intend to have the child baptized at another parish and need a letter sent to that parish confirming you attend the baptism class, please make sure to let the Parish office know this when you register for the class so a letter can be prepared ahead of time.

Classes are held on one Sunday a month from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.  Please arrange for a babysitter to watch your child so you can attend the class without distraction. Please contact the office to register.

For a child who is over six years old:

Please contact Kim by calling the parish office or by e-mail: goodshepherddcm@gmail.com in order to begin instruction.  Classes are with the child and the parents and prepare the child to receive all three sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) following the policies of the Diocese of San Diego.
