GMC August Newsletter

To ensure that you continue receiving GMC E-Newsletters and Communications, you will need to renew your annual GMC Membership by August 31, 2017.

Dear Fellow Gonzaga Moms,

This first Gonzaga Mothers Club (GMC) E-Newsletter welcomes you to the start of the 2017-2018 school year.  It’s hard to believe that we are already back in school!  While you are completing all of your back to school checklists for the upcoming school year, please take time to join the GMC or renew your annual GMC membership, if you haven’t done so already.  Please make sure you check out all our activities for the year and start planning where you would like to get involved.  A Sign Up Genius will come out closer to the date.  You will be rewarded with the support and friendship of other Gonzaga Moms, as well as appreciation and thanks from our sons and the entire Gonzaga community.  Please sign up, volunteer, and join us in the fun!  Even if you are not able to volunteer at this time, please consider joining, because only current GMC members will receive the latest news updates, stay in the loop with friendly and helpful reminders, and have first access to sign-ups for GMC events.

Not sure if you or your friends are already members?  Click here to see the list of current-GMC-members.

We are only a couple of days into the new school year and already a lot has happened on Eye Street. We hosted a Superhero themed luncheon for our faculty and staff at the Welcome Back Faculty Lunch.  Our wonderful Chairs, Kristen Loesch and Elaina O’Toole set the tone for "A Year of Our Eagles Flying High with our Superhero Faculty & Staff".  The decorations were terrific, the lunch was delicious, and the raffle prizes for the faculty were a fun treat.   Thank you to all of the volunteers who assisted that day and those who donated prizes.

We have welcomed new students and their parents to Eye Street with a lovely evening on campus at the New Families Welcome Picnic.  Eye Street came to life that night!  It was a wonderful night where new families were greeted by Mr. Every and Father Planning in St. Aloysius Church.  They later met classmates and fellow parents; talked to coaches, moderators, and upper classmen about sports teams and clubs; and even visited our bookstore for the latest Gonzaga gear! The decorations again looked festive, and the food was delicious. Many thanks to our wonderful Chairs, Kim Howland, Susan Macyko and Josie Militello, the GFC and the team of volunteers for organizing such a fun event and welcoming our new families in true Gonzaga style.

Lets get together!
Mark your calendars now for the first Gonzaga Mothers Club General Membership meeting on Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30pm in the Lower Commons.  Father Planning, our wonderful moderator, will share with us all the news and happenings at Gonzaga as we begin the new school year.  Meetings are usually on the second Wednesday of the month, with a few exceptions.  Please see the list of GMC General Membership meetings for the year: GMC Meeting Dates

The next Gala meeting is Wednesday, August 31 at 6:30 pm in the Jesuit Dining Room.  Please join Gala Chairs, Kim Howland and Maggie Sinnott Mejia to learn more about the exciting plans for the Winter Wonderland and find out how you can get involved.

The year is off to a busy start on Eye Street, so be sure to mark your calendar for all of the wonderful events and activities shown below.

Volunteer!
There are several upcoming GMC activities that are looking for volunteers or new members, and these events are highlighted in this E-Newsletter.  Please contact the event chairs if you are able to help or would like more information.  We thank you for your involvement and look forward to seeing you at Gonzaga!

Thank You!
I would like to send huge thanks to all who have already joined the GMC, and have signed up to help in so many ways.  Your enthusiasm, support, and giving spirit allow the Gonzaga Mothers Club to serve the Gonzaga community and have a great time doing it!

Ignatian Reflection and Prayer Group

  • What is the spirituality that informs your sons’ Jesuit education?
  • Do you wonder what A.M.D.G. means?
  • Would you like to find a short prayer that can help you find God in your daily life?

Whether your son is a freshman or a senior, you are welcome to join other Gonzaga moms who want to know more about the words, phrases and spirituality that are woven into a Jesuit education.

We will ask you to read brief sections from books written by Jesuits, share your learning with a small group, and be introduced to simple ways of praying, even if you are not familiar with Ignatian forms of prayer. Each session will be facilitated by Martina O’Shea who, for the past seven years has been the Pastoral Associate for Ignatian Spirituality and Prayer at Holy Trinity Church in Georgetown.

No need to sign-up, come once or every month!

Fridays from 8:00 - 9:00 am in the Jesuit Dining Room on
