GMC Newsletter
Dear Gonzaga Moms,

How did we get to second semester already?  First semester seems to have flown by with many fabulous events.  The spring promises to bring more wonderful opportunities to gather and be involved in the very special Gonzaga community.  March brings our fabulous Mother-Son Celebration, April is the International Food Fair, May is the Faculty Summer Send Off, and June brings Baccalaureate and New Mothers’ Luncheon.  Of course each month there is the Faculty Treats and the Ignatian Prayer and Reflection in which we welcome all to participate.  I hope you all will come to Eye Street and get involved.

Our February meeting on Wednesday, February 8, will feature our Headmaster, Tom Every.  We are very excited to offer you the opportunity to ask Mr. Every questions before the meeting.  Please submit your questions via our google doc and Mr. Every will answer these questions at the meeting.  Please remember to bring to the meeting a donation of diapers for the Men for Others Diaper Drive, toiletries and other items for the Father McKenna Center, and small gift items for the Washington School for Girls (WSG). We are eager to support these worthy causes, and we know they depend on our help throughout the year.

We recently posted online the Call for Volunteers and Nominations for next year’s GMC Committee and Events Chairs, also known as the GMC Board of Directors. Please thoughtfully consider what role you may like to have with next year’s GMC, and let us know by submitting your name and those of other moms who you feel would serve as a good Chairperson. To review the list of positions and descriptions, click here. We are very thankful and fortunate to have each of you very talented and positive women as members of the GMC, so please consider how you would like to serve and submit your nominations online here. All nominations are confidential and seen only by the GMC Executive Board, which serves as the Nominating Committee. Nominations will be accepted until March 1st. Email questions to Jean Schlesinger, GMC Vice President and Chairperson of the Nominating Committee, at jschlesinger@gonzagamothers.org (202-257-5197).

We would like to send a mighty thank you to Julia Cashmere, Annmarie Edwards, Lorena Eagan, Lisa Opipari-Arringan and all of the volunteers who helped prepare and serve meals to the freshman students, their parents, and leaders and staff during the weekend of Freshman Retreat. This special tradition sets the tone for our new students and families as they begin their journey at Gonzaga.  Thanks go out to Stacey Brown for coordinating refreshments for the parents and to Hazel Lychak and Sharon Persinski for feeding the faculty on Parent Teacher Conference night.   Martha Marrapese and Jennifer Winters, thank you ladies, treated the sophomore families to refreshments at the Sophomore Family Night.

Last, but not least, thank you to Eileen WisorFamily Support Chair, for continuing to send well wishes, prayers, and other support on behalf of the GMC to our families in times of need. If you know of someone who might need such assistance, please contact Eileen at familysupport@gonzagamothers.org.

I hope to see you at the GMC meeting! Thank you in advance for your nominations for the 2017-2018 GMC Board of Directors and for all that you continue do for the GMC and Gonzaga.

Annual Men for Others Diaper Drive

February 2 - 9th

Please encourage your son to participate! Sizes 4, 5 & 6 are particularly needed.  All diapers collected will be donated to the D.C. Diaper Bank which provides a monthly average of 75,000 diapers to 2,500 D.C. area families. The Founder and Executive Director, Corrine Cannon, is the daughter of Gonzaga's own Rick Cannon and created the Diaper Bank in 2010. This year our goal is 16,000. If every family brings in one pack, we will meet this ambitious goal!

Diapers can be dropped off in the Upper and Lower Commons and in the rotunda of Ruetsch. Please help us with this worthy effort!
