What is the dress code and formal dress policy?

Refer to handbook pg 8:

  • Collared, solid, striped or checkered, polo-style golf shirt or long sleeve dress shirt.
  • Solid colored dress pants only.
  • Low-cut (below the ankle) dress shoes.
  • A belt must be worn at all times.
  • Socks must be worn at all times.
  • On formal dress days, students must wear the following for the entire school day:  a suit coat or blazer, a properly tied necktie or bowtie, a solid or striped dress shirt, dress pants and belt, dress shoes and socks.

How can I find out about carpools?

Participation in a carpool is completely voluntary and up to individual families to determine.  The Gonzaga directory does provide a listing in the back with students sorted by zip codes to facilitate this process.

What are school hours?

8:10am-2:45pm.  See website and page 30 of Student Planner.

What is the inclement weather policy?

Gonzaga follows Montgomery County Public Schools inclement weather closings.

How can my son inquire about playing sports?

Come to New Family Picnic - teams will have tables manned with coaches and team captains to answer questions about Gonzaga sports.

Are there mixers and what about the homecoming dance?

See school calendar.

How do we order books before school starts and are books available at school?

The Gonzaga website has a link to Follett online bookstore where books for all classes can be located.  Books can be purchased online at Folletts or elsewhere, but required books for all classes are located on this website.  Go to Campus Life/Follett Virtual Books.

What does the bookstore stock?

The bookstore stocks notebooks, pens, etc. and SOME textbooks.

When are exams?  Mid-term?  Final?

Midterm exams are Dec 15-20, 2016.  Final exams May 22-25, 2017.

Is food available in the cafeteria?  Can students leave to buy lunch outside of school?

Sage food service provides breakfast and lunch food offerings.  See information packet to sign-up for an account for your son.  Meals can be paid with cash also.  Only Juniors and Seniors may leave campus at lunch.

When and what is Back-to-School night?

BTS night is Sept. 8 at 6:45pm.  Parents (only) will travel their son’s schedule for 10 min/class to meet their teachers and briefly learn about each class.  (Note that this is not the time for individual conferences.)

Are there Parent-Teacher conferences?  When?

Three times/year after each marking period, Oct. 20, Jan. 18 and Mar. 15, parents are invited to meet with their son’s teachers and talk individually for approx 10 mins. en masse at a school wide conference in the gym.

What do the Mother’s Club and Father’s Club do?  Do they meet regularly?

The GMC meets the 2nd Wednesday evening of each month.  The GFC meets each month also -  see school calendar.

What special events are held at school?

To name a few:

  • Jesuit Gridiron Classic - Sept 17 (at Prep this year)
  • Mass of Thanksgiving - Nov 13
  • Gala - Dec 03
  • DC Classic - Dec 9-11
  • International Food Fair - April 05

How can I find out what is going on at school?

Refer to the Gonzaga homepage for upcoming events and the calendar listed on the homepage.  As well, listen to the WZAG morning announcements which provide a wealth of information your son may forget to tell you!
