These pages outline the known ancestry of Harold Greene Nelson and Velma Louise Goldston.
Harold Nelson spent his early years in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, before moving to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Harold's father, Rice Nelson, was born in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas, to William / Mark Nelson and Caroline Portwood Banks. Harold's mother, Jessie Ann Harris, was born in Greeneville, Greene County, Tennessee. Her parents, Greene Harris and Amanda Wilson, brought her to Grayson County, Texas, when she was a child. Jessie's maternal grandparents, Henry and Dicey Wilson, moved a few years earlier from Greene County, Tennessee, to Collin County, Texas.
Velma Goldston was raised in Charleston, Bradley County, Tennessee, as were her parents (William) Condon Goldston and Nellie Robert Kimbrough. Condon Goldston, who was born in Winston-Salem in North Carolina, came to Tennessee at an early age with his parents William Goldston and Carrie Osborne. Nellie Robert Kimbrough was born in Tennessee (either in Bradley County or Hamilton County) to John Kimbrough and Darthulia Hambright. John Kimbrough was the son of Caroline Kimbrough and "the slave Craigmiles" (a quote from court records-no first name given), while Darthula Hambright was the daughter of George Hambright and Anna McClary.
