Transport and environmental issues of interest to local residents.

posted May 17, 2013, 10:14 AM by Jacqueline Davis

We were recently approached by the opposition spokesman on Ealing council for Transport and Environment with a request for local issues.  Members of the committee and local residents have suggested the following topics.  Do you have anything to add to this list or any comments?  Then please post them here on the site.

 1.       Traffic volumes, pollution and noise on the A40.

2.       The Green Corridor along the A40, and how and whether it is going to be preserved when the currently vacant land is sold/developed by TFL.

3.       Improvements to the bicycle / pedestrian use of the pavement on either side of the A40, including protection for people waiting at the bus stops at Western Circus, Foster Road and Perryn Road on the A40.

4.       Traffic calming measures on East Acton Lane.

5.       Traffic calming measures on Friars Place Lane, Shaa Road, Perryn Road etc.

6.       Control of overdevelopment of the properties on East Acton Lane/Glendun Road contrary to planning restrictions, and the failure to secure reinstatement.

7.       Whether or not there should be conservation area status for any specific area.

8.       Enforcement of the restrictive covenants concerning property usage attached to many properties sold by the Goldsmiths’ Company.

9.       Reinstatement of wooden edging to the green islands along East Acton Lane.

10.   A review of the parking restriction zones – are they effective as currently formulated ?

11.   Alterations to storm drainage caused by the paving over of front gardens for use as parking places.

12.   Parking problems associated with the 3 schools on East Acton Lane and their management.

13.   Foxes, control of.

14.   Promoting the use of recycling facilities to those households whose visible piles of black bin bags, often attacked by foxes, make it clear that they have not made use of food recycling bins etc.

15.   Promoting use of water butts and other rain water storage for watering gardens.

16.   Hedges and bushes impinging on the pavement.  Who should be responsible for cutting them back ?

 17. Additional buses routed through our area.

Merry Xmas

posted Dec 5, 2012, 12:49 AM by Jacqueline Davis   [ updated Dec 5, 2012, 12:52 AM ]

Last night we hosted our first Xmas social.  It was so nice to sit and chat with our neighbours. The cakes were delicious, the conversation delightful and we hope to hold many more of these social events.  If you have an idea and would like to get more involved in your community then do please contact us.

We had three members of the local Safer Neighbourhoods team in attendance who reported on the latest crime activity in the area.  They advised us to call 101 or email them on for non-emergency reporting and of course if a crime is being committed 999.  There has been a rise in car crime in the area and they advised not to leave valuables in the car and to  lock up our out-buildings as theft of garden tools and bikes is on the increase.

We wish you all a very merry xmas and look forward to seeing you again in the new year.

Ealing Involved

posted Nov 9, 2012, 3:09 AM by Jacqueline Davis   [ updated Nov 9, 2012, 3:20 AM ]

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the launch of  Ealing Involved.  This is an exciting project and we believe that it is the first of its kind in the UK.  Ealing Involved is a website which aims to enable everyone in the community to contribute to making Ealing an even better place to live and work.

The website will bring you information on what Ealing based charities are doing for our community and show you how you can use the services on offer or get involved and help out.  Whether this is volunteering, donating goods or donating money.  Everyone can make a contribution to our community.

Every four months Ealing Involved will showcase 9 charities so you can find out more about what is happening in your borough.  Click  Ealing Involved  to find out how you can get involved.

We hope that as as residents association we will be able to contribute to Ealing Involved.  If you have any ideas on how we as a community can support people in need then do come along for a cup of tea and a slice of cake on the 4th December.

Goldsmiths social gathering

posted Sep 5, 2012, 2:10 AM by Jacqueline Davis

On the 4th December at 7pm all Goldsmiths residents are invited to a social gathering.  Following on from the successful street party we are responding to your requests to get together more often with your neighbours.  We thought early December exactly 6 months after the Jubilee event would set the pattern for us to meet up socially twice a year.

If the December gathering is a success we will follow this with another street party in the summer.  So do come along on the 4th December and if you wanted to bring a plate of food to share that would be greatly appreciated.

March with us on the 15th Sept to save our local hospitals

posted Jul 3, 2012, 11:13 PM by Jacqueline Davis   [ updated Sep 5, 2012, 2:33 AM ]

Goldsmiths Residents Association are joining the march and rally to save our local hospitals.  We will be meeting from 11am on Saturday 15th March at Acton Park.  We will then walk along Uxbridge Road to Ealing Common.

More information available on
NHS North West London is reorganising hospital services and is proposing to close four of the nine A&E centres in the area.

The ill-thought-out proposals would mean Acton residents losing A&E departments at Central Middlesex, Ealing, Hammersmith and Charring Cross hospitals.  The nearest A&E units for us would be
St Marys,  Chelsea and Westminster, Northwick Park, the West Middlesex or Hillingdon.  We do not have good public transport links from Acton to any of these hospitals and in emergencies lives could be put at risk.

A public consultation that will run from July to October, with a decision on the proposed changes being made early in 2013.  To ensure your voice is heard please sign the petitions below.
