9/12: Measurement and error reduction

posted Sep 12, 2013, 2:51 PM by Simone Erchov
This week we will be discussing issues in measurement, specifically focused on reducing error and improving accuracy estimates.  One contentious topic in this realm has been the study of rape and the accuracy of sexual assault indicence rates.  How these incidents have been measured (type, wording on questionnaires, etc.) has shown to result in inconsistent outcomes.  Attached is an article providing an overview and one potential answer to the quandary.  In addition, the WSJ's Number Guy made an effort to address this problem as well.  Please come ready to discuss your thoughts!
