The GMU ASCE is a student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Membership is open to all IT&E students. We meet approximately twice a month, host guest speakers, organize social activities and trips, and promote service activities in the area.

Mission

Classroom knowledge builds the perfect foundation for your career, but ASCE develops your leadership skills, practical tactics, connects you to a network of professionals, and inspires your creative outlets through activities and competitions. Plus, you’ll interact with like-minded peers who could turn out to be your lifelong friends.  Today’s civil engineers are the masterminds driving innovation and shaping our world. You are the profession’s future and have the opportunity to create remarkable projects to improve your community and make a difference in the lives of people every day. Since 1852, ASCE has helped civil engineers find their professional home. As you set your course, and join our more than 144,000 members, ASCE will help you achieve your goals too. ASCE Student Organizations help you master the civil engineering skills you need to enter the profession.

Student Involvement Point System

Our GMU ASCE keeps track of involvement from our members. We believe that those who put in the most effort deserve to be recognized for it.

To be an ACTIVE member of our organization, students are required to have a minimum of 20 points per semester. Points vary per event and are ultimately decided upon by the officers of the GMU ASCE.

- 5 points for general body/guest speaker meetings
- 2 points for social events
- 5-10 points for community service/fundraising events (Including Career Fair)

As an added bonus, we reward the members who accumulate the most points with recognition on our website, opportunities in the Regional ASCE Annual Conference, prizes, and more!
