YOGA 4 CLASSROOMS

May 6th and 13th
Yoga 4 Classrooms visited our school on two different dates to teach Yoga to all grades. For more details about this enrichment program, please check out their web page or a short movie on how other schools have successfully integrated this program in their days.






MICHALE GLASER - TIDE POOLS

May 2nd and 3rd
For more than 30 years Michael has been an educator at schools, museums, camps and nature centers. At many schools, his presentation has become a regular part of the curriculum, with return visits year after year. Click image above to visit his webpage.


ANIMAL WORLD EXPERIENCE- (Pre-K and K)

April 30th and May 1st


Wonderful presentation of exotic animals that teaches kids empathy and to treat pets with care.

Friday, April 12 - 
Between February 28th and April 8th, classrooms are working hard to reach superior reading goals. At two assemblies on April 12th, the student body will gather together to be recognized for their achievements. For more details- please click here.

WALLY THE GREEN MONSTER (All grades)

Wally the Green Monster visited our school to bring the excitement and enthusiasm of the Boston Red Sox!








TRAILSIDE MUSEUM PRESENTATION (Grade 3)

April 1st and 2nd, 2013
Blue Hills Trailside Museum is a natural history museum situated at the base of Great Blue Hill in Milton, owned by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and managed by Mass Audubon. Trailside Museum features native, non-releasable wildlife and exhibits on the natural history of the Blue Hills and Massachusetts. The naturalists visiting Mitchell presented a New England Wildlife program. 



AUTHOR JERRY PALLOTTA - 
FAMILY LITERACY NIGHT
March 28th, 2013 - The author of the famous "Who Would Win?" series, "F is for Fenway" book and numerous Alphabet Books that you most likely have in your collection, has visited our school. He held 2 large assemblies during the school day and an evening event for families. Families may also order his books via forms that went home. The Reading Incentive Committee thanks GMSPA for purchasing one "F is for Fenway" book for each classroom of our school! For more information about Author Jerry Pallota, please visit his website by clicking HERE.


 

WBZ Meteorologist Joe Joyce

March 27th - He was at our school for 2rd grade classes. Joe Joyce is WBZ-TV’s weekend morning meteorologist and weekday environmental reporter. Joyce joins WBZ-TV from NECN, where he was the weekend meteorologist since August of 1997. Before joining NECN, Joyce worked at WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine for two years. Joyce graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in broadcast journalism and earned a degree in meteorology from Mississippi State University. He is certified by the National Weather Association, and earned an AMS Seal from the American Meteorological Society. He is a contributing member of the Blue Hill Weather Observatory and the American Red Cross.  Click the image for more info about him. 





Dr. Seuss' Birthday Schoolwide Celebration -
Launch of Read Across America Week
Monday, March 4th, 2013 - Our school celebrated Dr. Seuss' Birthday with a special treat in the cafeteria, a bookmark and a sticker for each student! A special thank you to the teachers on the Reading Incentive Committee for organizing this fun event and to the parents that volunteered and helped giving out the sweets.

DAVID ZUCKER of POETRY IN MOTION
February 26, 2013 - David's stage career spans 30 years with over 9,000 performances in schools, theaters, libraries and festivals across the USA, in the UK and Greece. David is a professional actor, mime director and playwright. His children's book "Uncle Carmello" is published by Macmillan press. Click HERE  for videos of David Zucker.



LEENY DEL SEAMONDS STORY TELLER

Monday, February 4 (Grades K &1) - Winner of a Parents’ Choice Gold Award and Silver Honor, a Storytelling World Winner award, an iParenting Media Winner award, and The 2002 National Storyteller of the Year®, Leeny Del Seamonds is known for animated, interactive one-woman performances for all ages and possibilities. 
Leeny has been headliner at hundreds of festivals, conferences, community events, corporate

BIG RYAN'S TALL TALES

December 12 & 13 ; March 18-22nd and April 1st
Big Ryan’s Tall Tales has been telling stories now for over 11 years! Big Ryan has kept up a quality show that children enjoy over and over! Big Ryan has programs that are appropriate for preschool all the way to 5th grade! His original stories, puppet play, a bit
of music and movement are a whole lot of fun! The programs run about 45 minutes but have been known to sometimes go a full hour!

PUMPERNICKEL PUPPETS
 
For over thirty five years the Pumpernickel Puppets have captivated audiences of all ages. John McDonough and his puppets present over two hundred fifty shows a year at schools, libraries and private parties throughout the New England area. This year they visited us on November 14th and our Pre-K and K students really had a blast! HERE you can find more details about John McDonough's Pumpernickel Puppets.
 
 






 
KEVIN ROBINSON SCHOOL ASSEMBLY

On October 24th, Kevin Robinson offered an educational school assembly which was individualized towards specific grade levels. Topics include: Bullying PreventionCharacter BuildingOvercoming AdversityThe Power of Perseverance and Overall Kindness. Kevin is a professional bicycle stunt rider whom students of all ages view as a peer. During his presentation, he performed bicycle stunts, which kept his audience focused on him and his positive messages. PILGRIM CLASSROOM VISITS

During the month of October our third grade classrooms took a step back in time and had a guest Pilgrim from Plimouth Plantation engage them in the life experiences of the 17th Century.  Massachusetts is a major part of the third grade Social Studies curriculum and the students have been learning a lot about Squanto, Wampanoags and the Pilgrims. EXPLORING MUSIC WITH KERRY CAMPBELL

Creative Arts Enrichment Music classes with Mrs. Kerry Campbell began in mid-October and includes a variety of creative musical activities, including singing, rhythm making, dramatic interpretation, listening to and learning about many different styles and forms of music, and lots of movement. Students in 1/2 day Kindergarten classrooms will play with percussion instruments and other props, in addition to learning musical basics and terminology such as notation and instruments of the orchestra as we cover tunes from around the world. The schedule goes through the second week of May 2013. 
 
 

The School Enrichment Committee has been busy planning all these wonderful assemblies and guest speakers for all our students. There are plenty of events planned for all grade levels throughout the school year. The goal is to align these events closely with grade level curriculum.  The committee meets once a month and/or as needed to get the programs organized.
