Academic Enrichment

What is an Academic Enrichment Program?
An Academic Enrichment Program is an educational program that typically complements your child's curriculum in the classroom, but is additional as it is not taught by the teacher. Academic Enrichment programs can also be current issue programs and programs that are important to this age group. Remember when you used to get so excited in school when the teacher brought you to the auditorium for something a little different? Yes! That is what we refer to as an Academic
Enrichment Program at Mitchell. GMSPA co-sponsors these programs with the school and typically funds approximately $15,000/year to help bring these out-of-the-classroom experiences to our children. Fundraised money is used to pay for the cost of these events in our school, for our children. Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts!

This show takes the children on a journey towards self-confidence and self-expression through Ooch's personal stories of being bullied. The show's focus is on the great power each student can develop by using his or her own unique qualities and talents, i.e., "Superpowers", as Ooch calls them. These newfound "powers" are then applied to common bullying scenarios. Ooch draws parallels to the attributes of superheroes, and leaves his audience feeling "super". Just as Superman is bullet-proof, Ooch's audience learns to become "WORD-proof".

The School Enrichment Committee has been busy planning all these wonderful assemblies and guest speakers for all our students. There are plenty of events planned for all grade levels throughout the school year. The goal is to align these events closely with grade level curriculum. The committee meets once a month and/or as needed to get the programs organized.
