Artists renedition of a possible "Deep Space Slingshot" this would be a cheaper, and very effective way of launching ships into deep space from the atmosphere. The part of a shuttles trip that uses the most gas is escaping the pull of our atmosphere, this would be a cheap and effective way of getting around that which would allow us to put ships into space in a much more coss effective manner.

In order to spontaneously assemble and orient the micron-sized porous Si "smart dust," we couple chemical modification with the electrochemical machining process used to prepare the nanostructures. The process involves two steps, see the scheme below. In the first step, a porous photonic structure is produced by etching silicon with an electrochemical machining process. This step imparts a highly reflective and specific color-code to the material, that acts like an address, or identifying bar-code for the particles. The second step involves chemically modifying the porous silicon photonic structure so that it will find and stick to the desired target. In the present case, we use chemistry that will target the interface between a drop of oil in water, but we hope to be able to apply the methodology to pollution particles, pathogenic bacteria, and cancer cells. The two steps (etch and modify) are repeated with a different color and a different chemistry, yielding two-sided films. The films are broken up into particles about the size of a human hair. With the chemistry shown below, the particles seek out and attach themselves to an oil drop, presenting their red surface to the outside world and their green surface towards the inside of the drop.

This is an example of how the SKA would look. The Square Kilometer Array is a conceptual astronomical tool that Australia is looking into installing. It will utilize thousands of small dishes all arrayed together and linked to simulate one giant telescope. Australian astronomers hope to use this Array to discover the origins of the first stars, and much more. Perhaps hidden galaxies, or even extraterrestrial signals. The possibilities are close to limitless. Australia is prime for a venture like this (and have been throughout the history of modern astronomy, really) due to their relatively flat topography, low population-density, low pollution, and lack of light pollution. -- Steve Olender

This could be a very interesting trend that robotics could be making in the future, instead of putting wheels on them we could give them legs or a way to fly
and make them much more maneuverable as well as useful.

Exploring Magnetic Fields
NASA is going to start to use a collection of three different micro cake-sized satalites to study the earth's Magnetic fields. They are going to be doing tests that larger and more expensive satalites should be used for, thus saving a lot of money and time. Is this the trend for the future?
