The advent of the World Wide Web has dramatically broadened the horizons for members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) community, putting a wealth of helpful information at the fingertips of anyone with access to a computer and an Internet connection. However, with this explosion of information online, it's become increasingly more difficult to find what you're looking for without having a guide to what's available. Hopefully, this gateway site will serve as a road map to the resources that are the best, at least in my opinion Although this gateway is designed for the use of anyone who finds it helpful, I hope that young people--particularly those in the process of discovering who they are sexually--will find it useful in getting answers to their questions. I know that as a young man growing up, the pain of discovering that I was not like everybody else would have been eased considerably if I'd had access to some of the thoughtful and sensitive materials now readily available on the Internet. I make no claim that the resources indexed here represent all that's available online, but I would like to think that the best that the Web has to offer for the GLBT audience is covered. Here you'll find links to quality resources for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered persons in a variety of categories, including AIDS/HIV; arts and culture; domestic violence; education; health; marriage and relationships; and news and media. Also provided are links to resources of particular interest to young members of the GLBT community and also the family and friends of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and the transgendered. As noted above, the primary goal of this site is to provide a gateway to the best GLBT resources available online. However, there will be some other features provided here as well, including the partial list (Famous and Infamous) of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people who've made their mark on history--for better or worse--and the very subjective list (Best GLBT Films) of the GLBT films that were most meaningful to me. We've also added a chatroom and discussion forum.  |
