Gil Rogers was born on July 23, 1983 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn. At the ripe age of 2, Gil and his family moved to Arvada, CO, as his father got a new job.
At the age of 14, Gil and his mother drove back from Arvada to Middletown, where Gil's mother and grandparents currently reside.
At age 18, Gil began studies at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn. Inspired by his work with his Senior Yearbook in High School, Gil pursued a degree in Marketing at the Barney School of Business. Gil Graduated in 2005 with his BS in Business Administration and a minor in communication and second minor in insurance/finance.
While attending the University of Hartford, Gil became active in the UHa Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter. While serving as Director of Development and Marketing for the Chapter, Gil laid the foundation of a future home sponsorship in Hartford by raising awarness of Habitat for Humanity to new levels on campus. Gil also visited Birmingham, AL and Charleston, SC during 'Alternative Spring Break' in 2004 and 2005.
Scouting has had a strong influence on Gil's life. Before moving back to Connecticut in 1997, Gil attained the Rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Troop 600 in Arvada. Gil also became a member of the Order of the Arrow (OA), which is the National Honor Society of Scouting, in 1995. In 1999, Gil received his Vigil Honor in the OA, which is the highest honor a local lodge can bestow on its members. In 2000, Gil received the Tschitani Lodge (his home lodge in Connecticut) Silver Lodge Flap, and Founder's Award ... both awards given for service above and beyond the call of duty to the lodge.
After un-successfully running for Lodge Chief of Tschitani Lodge after two-terms as Chapter Chief in his home District, Gil ran for Section Vice Chief of NE-1B (which encompasses OA lodges in CT, MA and RI). After a successful term of Section Vice Chief, Gil went on to serve as Section Chief. During his three terms as Section Chief, Gil staffed numerous National Leadership Seminars for the Northeast Region, provided leadership, and contributed to, multiple national programs, and became a member of the Northern Tier Wilderness Voyage Staff.
As a member of the Wilderness Voyage Staff, Gil led six crews of 7 youth OA members into the Minnesota Boundary Waters,
providing meaningful service for one week, and facilitating a
leadership development and team building program during the second
week. Gil ultimately served as Assistant Director to the OA
Voyage in 2005, and continues to work with a nation-wide team to
promote this and similiar programs offered by the Order of the Arrow. In 2006 at the National Order of the Arrow Conference, Gil was recognized with the OA's Distinguished Service Award. A list of recipients can be found here.
Inspired by his commitment to Habitat for Humanity, and motivated by his obligation to serve others as a member of the Order of the Arrow, Gil travelled to Waveland, MS in early January 2006. With friends Brian Cutino and Dan O'Rourke (both of whom are also very active in the OA), Gil spent a week helping local residents who were affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
As a Senior at the University of Hartford, Gil was an intern
for Madison Square Garden-Connecticut, working primarily with the Hartford Wolf*Pack Hockey Club (AHL Affiliate of the New York Rangers of the NHL) and doing promotions for events at the Hartford Civic Center and Rentschler Field
(Home of UConn Football). Gil is now a member of the Hartford
Wolf*Pack Event Staff, coordinating pre-game promotions (Fan Fest) and
assisting with fan relations during contests.
Gil served as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Hartford. While pursuing his Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Gil recruited for the University of Hartford. During the fall of 2005, Gil called Norristown, PA home while he represented the University of Hartford in Southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington D.C., Delwaware and Virginia. In the fall of 2006, Gil will relocate to Norwood, MA to represent the University of Hartford in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. While on the road, Gil visits numerous high schools, speaking with prospective students of the University, as well as attends regional college fairs, answering questions from parents and students alike.
In January, Gil moved into an apartment in downtown Hartford with his girlfriend, Heather Ruopp. The apartment is great, and all friends and family are invited to visit. To see pictures of the apartment before the big move, CLICK HERE.
After concluding his tenure as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Hartford, Gil was taken on by the University of New Haven as an Assistant Director for Undergraduate Admission. Gil will review applications for the territory of New Jersey, and represent the university at college fairs and high schools in that territory in the fall and spring.
Gil completed his MBA from the University of Hartford in August, 2007.
On December 9, 2007 Gil proposed to Heather at Hot Tomato's in Hartford, Conn. ... she said yes. The two are making plans to be married in early fall of 2008 in Danbury, Conn. They have set up a website to help friends and families make plans to attend the wedding.
