Sri Ajit Guruji from IOM motivates students, staff and the volunteers

posted Nov 5, 2016, 9:03 AM by shaale sevaka   [ updated Nov 5, 2016, 9:32 AM ]

volunteers: (Back benchers) BKVenkatesh, Ravindra, Rajeev Anand
(Regular guys) Dr.Ganesh, Daya, Kanda Kumar
(Front benchers) Vanitha, Anitha (vanitha's friend)

Vanitha has been trying to get this session arranged for quite sometime
and finally it went great !!!

We had an excellent interaction with Sri Ajit Guruji of IOM (India On the Move).
Guruji shared many of his experiences with us. Students enjoyed the
interaction with Guruji ( who is a teacher ). It was great to see students
getting recognized for answering smartly. One interesting thing is the
meaning of "Alpahaari". One of the students came up with "Mini-Meals".
(Actually, eternal back bencher  bkv was the one who coined it; anyways).

Guruji conveyed below 5 values for the students in his own unique way:
  1. have adequate food
  2. leave home and be there at the school to learn
  3. concentrate like a crane (it has to, if it needs to catch the fast fish)
  4. be alert like a dog
  5. try persistently and smartly like a crow (one of the most educated birds, baby crows spends almost 30% of their lifetime as helpless chicks learning the tricks from parents and siblings)
He is going to donate a desktop computer within a week for use by students.
His team is going to spend a full day (starting at 9:30am and ending at 3:45pm) at the school every 90 days.

Some of the suggestions that came up during the discussions

  • Cricket match between school team and volunteers (along with their family)
  • After-school tuition for interested 10th standard students
  • More collaboration between teachers, volunteers and the parents
  • appoint a PT teacher to support sports classes
  • School premises cleaning on November 26th with participation from teachers, students, volunteers and the parents
  • Ravindra is going to take care of issues with open electrical wires hanging around
  • co-ordinate student volunteers from surrounding colleges to teach basic computer skills to students
  • donate books for browsing by the students
  • arrange a program to involve the local community (competitions involving singing, coloring, painting, drawing, essay writing etc)
