Gareth Funning
I am a geophysicist. By studying movements and deformation of the Earth's surface, I aim to learn more about processes that occur in the crust. These include earthquakes, the bending of the crust by plate tectonics, slow movements of faults ('fault creep'), and human activities such as geothermal power production.
I work as a Professor at the University of California, Riverside.
I am always open to taking on graduate students who might be a good fit in my group, in terms of skills, background or interests. If you are potentially interested in working with me, some more details are provided here.
The image above shows a GPS receiver measuring a survey benchmark overlooking Clear Lake in northern California in August 2014. Two days later, my student and I were rushing 65 miles south to respond to the South Napa earthquake!
