MARCH 16th, 2013 - Save the Date!

A local Jemison resident, Ginny Hallmark is on a mission to bring awareness to the community about the importance of exercise!!  The annual "GET MOVING JEMISON, Inc." 5K/1M will be taking place on March 16th , 2013 beginning at 8:00am.  The Health and Fitness EXPO will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. “Though I have been successful in other career paths, I have always felt like God was calling me to use my training to personally help other people.  I have an especially strong desire to help women and children.”

Alabama ranked No. 2 in the nation for obesity among adults, based on a report released by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The report also stated Alabama ranks No. 14 for obesity among children, and that about 17.9 percent of Alabama’s children ages 10-17 are obese. Chilton County is ranked in the top ten unhealthiest counties in Alabama.  Another startling statistic is that Type I (Juvenile) and Type II (Adult On-set) Diabetes is on the rise.  Type II Diabetes may be prevented or cured by a change of diet and an increase in physical activity.  Exercise is also a main ingredient in decreasing the risk of heart disease, cancer, and alleviating pain associated with arthritis.

Hallmark stresses that exercise is the single most important activity that you can do to improve your overall physical and mental health. “Sometimes, women tend to place themselves low down on their priority list while placing their children, families, and careers first. This is detrimental to women’s health.  As women, if we do not take care of ourselves, we will not remain healthy enough to continue to care for our families and children.  Our loved ones also learn good habits from the example we set for them.  Let’s show them good habits”, says Hallmark.

Hallmark has worked with women through personal cardio and strength training and has substituted in the Chilton County School District for the last four years. She frequently comes in contact with children who would greatly benefit from improvements to their general health habits.

So residents of Chilton County, Please come join your community and raise awareness for the importance of exercise!! Following the 5K/1M Fun Walk will be a Health & Fitness EXPO lasting until 4:00 p.m. “GET MOVING JEMISON, Inc.” is sponsored by various businesses in and around the Jemison area who are also dedicated to improving the health of the community.  These businesses will have information on how you can begin your journey to a healthier way of life.

Note: Ginny Hallmark is a seven-year resident of Chilton County and the mother of two children.  She has a degree in Sports Medicine.  She has participated in numerous charity races in the Birmingham area as well as several triathlons in the Mobile area.
