Lady Lawyers are Georgetown’s Fans of the Year

Closing out a year of numerous successes, the Georgetown women’s basketball program hosted its annual banquet on April 21.  In addition to honoring both Hoya players, coaches and staff at the banquet, the team showed its appreciation to the loyal fans that cheered them on through both the ups and downs of the 2006-07 season.  The Fan of the Year Award was presented to Washington, DC members of the Get in the Game Lady Lawyers League, a non-profit women’s basketball league comprised of active attorneys and law students across the country.

In addition to being a constant presence in the stands at home games, the DC Lady Lawyers League hosted its first-ever fantasy camp with the Hoyas in early spring.  The Lady Lawyers had a chance to sharpen their skills on the court, while providing a valuable networking opportunity for the young Hoya players off the court.  The League plans to make the fantasy camp an annual event, and looks forward to many more seasons of supporting the Hoyas.

“Remember there’s always another game to play,” advised Hoya Head Coach, Terri Williams-Flournoy, in her closing remarks to her departing seniors and returning players.  Whether the game is on the court, in the classroom or out in the real world, the determination, courage, and will to succeed learned by the girls while playing basketball translates to the many endeavors they will seek out in life.  The Lady Lawyers League strives to embody this philosophy, through developing athletic and networking opportunities for law students and attorneys of all ages, promoting women’s athletic programs, and supporting charitable organizations that help young women achieve their dreams.
