I am a Professor leading a Laboratory on Digital empowerment and creative materialization (BRAINtoBUILD) at the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Technology / Knowledge Science,  Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Nomi, Japan.

Formerly Professor of Design Creativity leading the Design Creativity Group at the Center for Ubiquitous Computing (UBICOMP) / Centre for Applied Computing (CAC), University of Oulu, Finland. My profile can be found on the University of Oulu webpage.

My interests are in the area of digital fabrication and design research, in particular, design creativity, design education, ideation, design cognition, and design thinking. I am actively involved in the foundation and development of the Special Interest Group on Design Creativity at the Design Society, six International Conferences on Design Creativity, as well as in the editorial team of the International Journal of Design Creativity and Innovation since the inception of the journal.
