Mad Housers (Community Service) a Success!(Sunday January, 29 2012)

On this past weekend, noma[s] and other fellow Georgia Tech CoA students participated in a Mad Housers campaign; this was a volunteer experience involving the construction of small shelters for the homeless. Details at madhousers.org .

Sustainable Shelter Solutions (Small Spaces)

YouTube Video

NOMA[S] will be looking at small spaces as apart of its sustainable shelter solutions research.  Compact ability has its place in an industrializing region (e.g. Beijing, China) and in post-industrial urban sprawl (e.g. Atlanta, GA).  As a series of studies begin to advance, students will analyze both contexts, test trending approaches, and develop effective design solutions under a realistic orientation.  This video is an example of ingenuity in a modern sense that sees something viewed as a consequence to something that offers a unique set of advantages. "Small space allows efficiency and user-friendliness."

The project is a mixed used transit-oriented development that has as its program a visitor's center, sustainable grocery store, and ground retail.

The determination of what to do with the site this year [2011] was more important than before; insofar, as the site was in the home-city of Georgia Tech, and much of the research for the project would come relatively easy.

Having viewed the project as an architectural one that stretches itself into an urban and community scale, we found appropriate many modes of working to find what kind of project responds well to the historical, and social context.
