Grants:  While we applied for grants in the Fall of 2011, after the Las Conchas Fire, grant money for thinning and fuels reduction on private property has been awarded to larger municipalities, such as Ruidoso in New Mexico.  Word is that the federal dollars are being spread further afield in more states such as Texas which also are requesting grant funding, have easier topology (flat lands), contractors within easy access willing to do the work, and easier work that allows the money granted to go father, than mountainous terrain in the back woods of New Mexico.  In short, there are other places that are much more cost effective, with higher population densities and will get more bang for the buck, than the Greater Eastern Jemez.   Expectations are that we shouldn’t look for grant money in the near future.
